A fine lacquer barrel form tea container. Japanese poison ivy motif surrounds the exterior and lid on a nashiji ground. Poison ivy in Japan is used to produce the urushi found in lacquer ware. The Hamon near the rim depicts Tsuta (ivy), the Matsuyama family crest. The interior is lined with a silver gilt insert.
